Government Funding
Government Funded Home Modification Programs Include:
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
For people aged under 65 (or 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) with a disability. Please visit the NDIS website to determine your eligibility as a participant in the scheme.
Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
A range of services, including home modifications and maintenance for people aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) on a pension. Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to determine your eligibility.
Queensland Home Assist Secure (HAS)
Home Assist Secure provides safety related information, referrals and subsidised assistance to Queenslanders 60 years and over, or people with a disability who are unable to undertake or pay for critical maintenance services to their homes without assistance.
Eligibility Summary
To be eligible, you must meet all these criteria:
- at least 60 years old or of any age with a disability
- a Pensioner Concession Card holder
- unable to complete the work yourself because it requires technical expertise or is a risk to your health and safety
- unable to use alternative assistance, such as through:
- the Commonwealth Home Support Program
- the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
- family or friends.

Accident Compensatory Insurance Schemes
State based accident compensatory insurance schemes may allow home modifications. If you are covered by a compensatory scheme as the result of an accident contact your case manager to discuss whether you may be eligible.
Department of Veterans Affairs – Mobility & Functional Support (DVA)
Home Modifications may be available for eligible veterans from the Department of Veterans Affairs. To find out more details visit: www.dva.gov.au
